Our worship Service
Worship starts at 11 am and is scheduled to run to about noon, although it often runs longer.
Usually, our worship service follows this pattern:
Opening prayer
Announcements
"Meet and Greet"
Testimonials
First Worship Song
Offering
Second Worship Song
Sermon
Closing Prayer
Closing song, same every week
The Opening Prayer is done by the pastor or by a member of the congregation.
Announcements tell us of upcoming events (click here) for the events calendar, and prayer requests (click here to see if there are any pending prayer requests) and other announcements of interest, such as birthdays, graduations, etc., which could also be found on our blog, "Community." (Click here for "Community" blog.)
Meet and Greet is a favorite time for all of us. For ten minutes or so, we walk around and catch up with our fellow churchgoers and we meet and welcome newcomers. Pastor only continues when we are done chatting, and all of us have returned to our seats.
Testimonials detail how God has blessed our lives. Some interesting stories come to light here.
Our First Worship Song: We alternate between classic hymns and modern Christian songs.
For example, we have sung the following modern Christian songs:
- Who Am I
- Jesus Called My Name
- Just Be Held
- Hold You Tight
- Where the Spirit of the Lord Is
- 10,000 Reasons
And here are examples of classic hymns we have sung:
- I'll Fly Away
- The Battle Belongs to the Lord
- He Has the Whole World in His Hands
- When We All Get to Heaven
- Trust and Obey
- He Leadeth Me
- Shine, Jesus, Shine
Next, the Offering is collected.
Then we do our Second Worship Song.
During the Sermon, Pastor always refers to scripture and how it can guide us in living our lives.
Then we have the Closing Prayer.
Finally, we do the Closing Song. Many people have heard this titled as the "Doxology." "Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below. Praise him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen." To watch/listen to The Doxology, click the image below.
Then we are dismissed.
Note that on the second and last Sunday, we have Communion at the end of the worship service. Also on the last Sunday, we have a potluck after the worship service.. For details, and to see the complete events calendar, click here.
Here's a sample of our worship service bulletin, a little worse for wear from actual use.
